[He jumped at first at the hair ruffle, he was still trying to get used to not always being on edge, but offers Nanu a smile after so he didn’t think he was adverse. He really did… kinda like it. He just has to try and get used to it again.
Of course his next words broke a like hole in his attempts to be more polite than came naturally, and his tone was laced with flat sarcasm.]
Wait seriously? [Then He paused, realizing what he just said. Of course he’s not serious ! He’s just being… a weird old man! He could feel his cheeks grow hot, and once againcursed his mother with making that a function he had to suffer, yet couldn’t make him taller.] Don’t answer that.
[And clearing his throat while serving up the stew. Just going to pretend that never happened. Don’t perceive him.]
Tough day at work?

[And he makes no effort to hide the soft snort and softer chuckle that follows the sight of Kanoa getting all flustered, feeling something of a weight lift from him to see that, just for a moment, things were...normal again. Whatever the kid had been through, the odd, sweet little boy he'd found only months ago seemed to still be there, buried under the gruff and sarcastic demeanor of a particularly jaded teenager.]
[...it's such an odd thought to have to wrap his head around, still. That Kanoa could have lived so many lifetimes, in what felt like terribly few short weeks...]
You know I hate going out to the desert, but I couldn't keep putting off going out to Tapu Bulu's shrine. And then when I got back, I had to deal with some dumbass tourist deciding it'd be fun provoking Guzma of all people...
I'm ready to retire, Kanoa. I'm not paid nearly enough for any of this.
[He listens as he dished up the meal. He gave Nanu a get larger portion than he got for himself. He didn’t need to eat, but he still wanted to share the meal with his father.]
You say that, but even if you did retire people would still come to you to solve all of their problems, and you’d still do it. Except then you wouldn’t be getting paid for it.
[All the love in the world wasn’t going to stop him from calling Nanu out there. He said it with a cheeky grin too- at least the blow would be softened with him setting the food in front of his father. And without thinking he kisses his father on the forehead and mutters a quiet “love you papa”. An old habit that still lingered, ingrained enough that even centuries later he thought nothing of it. It was just what he told Nanu every day when he got home, just with far less fanfare. He deliberately did his best to suppress the embarrassing memories of him nearly rushing the door to greet Nanu with an abundance of childish affection.]
I’m not sure how going to the shrines work but… if you teach me, maybe I could go instead? I’m not bothered by weather or temperature, and I don’t tire.
[Not that he thought the Tapus wanted anything to do with him, and he couldn’t blame them… But if he could make things a little easier for Nanu then it was worth a shot.
He paused a moment trying to place that name, then immediately looked annoyed upon remembering. The man had scared him enough that he’d hidden behind his father their first meeting. He vaguely remembered him being loud and spiky with an abundance of Things on his head, and it had frightened him at the time… which in hindsight was hilarious considering he’d been sitting on enough power to level the island.
Even though the memory was hazy, it was enough for him to lovingly not extend help to beloved father. Like a true teenager.]
Guzma is that loud guy, right? I don’t think I’d be any help with him. I’d probably just punch him in the mouth, and apparently that’s frowned upon here.
I mean unless you want me to make you a sword or something to chase him around with, but you’d probably just hurt yourself with it.
[He says with all the love in the world.]
