Glad to hear it, because sandwiches might be all you get out of me for the next day or two. I need to do some shopping...
[Well, he needed to do some shopping anyway, because when Acerola comes down for dinner tomorrow night he knows he really can't feed her sandwiches again... The continued trials of trying to be a responsible guardian...]
[...but he can start making Kanoa another sandwich while he still has all the ingredients out anyway.]
Aether House probably won't have a room available for you tonight, so I'm afraid that you're gonna be stuck here with me a little longer. That okay with you, Kanoa?
[That… made it sound as though he was going to go somewhere else. It made him nervous. He didn’t want to be stored away again, but also he didn’t know how to meet the qualifications to avoid such a fate.]
I like it here, you are very kind, and your children are very soft. I have learned a lot.
[Ah... And it's not hard to see that the idea of staying somewhere else made the kid nervous. Something Nanu instantly feels himself regret, and he reaches over to ruffle the boy's hair again, hoping the motion is as soothing as intended.]
Unfortunately, even if I didn't already have all my other "children" here taking up space like the lazy little freeloaders they are- [And the Meowth in Kanoa's arms makes a noise that might be a smug little kitty laugh.] -this...really isn't the best place for a kid to live. To visit, sure. But not to live.
But you'll be fine, I promise you that. You'll be staying with Acerola, my...well, I guess technically she's my god-daughter. And both of you will still be seeing me everyday, so don't think you're getting rid of me just yet.
But I am a puppet, not a child. I would not take up much space, and I would not require anything like a child would. And I can be strong, I promise I will not cry!
[He held the cat a little tighter in his arms, still careful, but afraid that it too might leave him. He was afraid. He could not fully articulate why, for he didn’t understand his feelings just yet. It was just fear.
Fear and a wish for more days like this.
But perhaps if he was not a child, he would still be sent away for not being human.]
I… I am not sure where I would belong, but I do not want to return to slumbering again…
[It's not a loud "hey". Not angry, or distressed. Just firm enough to get the boy's attention before he could start crying again, or babble himself in back in the same circles they had been, and Nanu gently grabs Kanoa's hand to urge the boy to look at him.]
Listen to me. I'm not sending you away. I don't know what kind of nonsense your mother put into your head, but the rest of us don't discard our children the second they become an inconvenience.
[He paused briefly to try and explain it, or prove what he was. After a moment of looking down at his hands, he gently shifts the Meowth so that he could take off his wrist band, revealing a ball joint. He had some similar remnants of his creation in view, but over the years they had faded due to the curious magics he was made with. Only a few subtle lines remained on his arms and ankles, something that could be easily mistaken for scars.]
